T.Y Retreat

On Tuesday, our class went to Glendalough for a retreat. It was really good. It gave us all time to think about life and meditate. The priest there was really friendly and gave us plenty of food for thought. Mrs L. asked us to make a motivational picture using an inspiring quote he said. Here's mine below:

Yay for Science!

So we recently did science projects in class on a topic of our choice. We were split into groups and I was with Emma and Ellie. (Take a look at their blogs!) Anyway, out project was based on the effects the recession has had on education in Ireland. Yes I admit the title doesn't exactly excite you or completely grab your attention but the more research we did on the topic the more interesting we found it. We spent a lot of time creating a slide show presentation and had the (nerve racking) oppurtunity to present it in front of the whole of T.Y. I was very nervous, we all were, but somehow managed to pull it off. And guess what? WE WOOON!! Well, there was three winners but we were one of them! Im so proud of us :) We each received a certificate and a voucher.
So, to cut to the chase, here's our power point presentation. Have a look and let me know what you think! :)

Dia Dhuit Gach Duine!

Haigh!
An seachtain sin, tá mé ag scríobh i nGaeilge! Tá mé ina chónaí in Éireann agus cheapaim go raibh sé an-tábhachta chun comád ár teanga náisiúnta beo :) Déanaimid a lán rudaí faoi láthair as Gaeilge. Mar shampla, rinneamar dráma gaeilge. Bhíomar ag clachtú an dráma gach lá agus ag an deireadh, bhí sé go híontach! Scríobh mo chara, Elaina, faoin dráma freisin. 'Click' Anseo.
Tá gach daoine ag baint taitneamh as an idir bhlian, agus tá mé ag súil le haghaidh na Cásca!

Slán gach doaine!
Kate

P.S. Anseo, an léarscáil na hÉireann!

My Week In Derrinstown Stud :)

Last week for my work experience, I went to Derrinstown horse stud in Maynooth, Co. Kildare.
I was very nervous going in on my first day, but the vet I was working with, Tom, was very friendly and welcoming. I went around to all the different parts of the stud with him in his jeep, where I got to observe him treating and taking care of the horses. I found it fascinating. Later that day I got the opportunity to do physio therapy on a foal who had a 'hyper flection'. This means that she was born with one of her hoove bant backwards. It was amazing to get that close to a new born foal, especially with her mother there watching.
The second day was very bury. We went around to lots of different places doing routine treatments on the mares and stallions. I also got the chance to stick my whole arm up the rear end of a mare! I got to feel her heart beat, it was amazing. Later that day I did some work on the stud like walking to horses and cleaning out the boxes. I also got to witness a covering, which was...interesting!
On my third day Tom brought me to his brother's vet, which deals with smaller animals like dogs and cats. I got to watch operations like cats being neutered and a dog who had a tumor on his tongue removed. There was so much blood that some even squirted in the vets face! It wasn't pleasant.
My last two days were fairly normal, but enjoyable.
I learned a lot of valuable lessons by the end of week and I walked away with sixty euro! Which was a plus ;)

Mullingaaaar :D

Yesterday, our whole year took a trip to Mullingar Arts cantre, where two of the classes were involved in a drama competition . It took us roughly an hour to get to Mullingar, and I thought that the small town was beautiful. There were so many small, old shops run by family businesses, which I really found interesting.
The minute we arrived at the arts centre the two other classes were whisked away to nget changed and rehearse their small plays. Our class got the pleasure to be spectators and a supporting audience for the girls.
The first group wrote their drama based on the well-known poem 'Midterm Break' by Séamus Heaney. They put a very interesting take on the sad poem, and all acted really brilliantly. Next up was a group who performed a drama based on bullying. I felt that this play was really emotional and really had an impact on me.
Then was a group who wrote their drama based on the song 'Concrete Angel'. This was by far the most emotional play as it dealtwith child abuse and neglect. It was a fantastic performance and left the audience almost in tears.
The final group performance was based on the poem 'Tisch Miller', which also deals with the theme of bullying.
Each play had an emotional and almost depressing feel to them, but all in all they were equally brilliant and i was very impressed.
It was really a fantastic day, which I really enjoyed.

BYYYE :D

The Hills Are Alive!!!

Hey Everyone :)
TY is going great, we are all really getting in to the swing of things now. At the moment the big thing in our school is the school musical! We are doing the sound of music.
I, for one, am completely tone deaf, plus I can't act, so auditioning was definetely not the first thing on my list! So instead I decided to sign up for some back stage work. I am doing make up :D this should be really fun, we are getting training for it and everything! I hope I do okay and don't make any of the actors look like clowns! Haha!
I'll put up some pictures when the musical is over.
Leave comments! :)

See yaaa x
