Basically we have been asked to choose a topic that interests us, and write about it based in different countries around the world. The topic that I have chosen is fashion. As a girl I have a great interest in clothes and fashion, and since fashion varies so greatly from country to country, I thought it would be interesting to research. I plan to investigate the clothes from big brands in each country.
The first country I chose is Sweden!
Sweden is a major fashion country in the world. It has given us many big shops and labels such as Acne and H&M. Here is some information and photos on these brands -
Acne:
Acne Jeans is a Swedish denim manufacturer and part of the Stockholm-based design firm “Ambition to Create Novel Expressions” (ACNE). It was founded in 1996 and has become famous worldwide.
H&M:
Hennes & Mauritz (H&M) is a very well known brand around the world. Founded in 1947, It is ranked the second largest global clothing retailer, just behind Spain-based company, Zara, and leads over third largest global clothing retailer.
The second country I chose is France!
Everyone knows that France is one of the leading countries in fashion, and Paris being one of the most high end fashion cities in the world. So here are some of the most famous (and expensive!) labels of Francais!
Chanel:
Chanel was founded by the famous Coco Chanel in 1909. It mainly specialises in haute cotoure, luxury items, such as handbags, perfumery, and cosmetics. Chanel has catered to tastes in items such as simple suits, dresses, women's pants, and costume jewellery. Here are some photos :)Louis Vuitton:
Louis Vuitton is a very famous french fashion label, founded in 1854 by Louis Vuitton himself. Louis Vuitton products range widely from watches to handbags to accessories, and even books. But the most famous product of all is the unique suitcases. Below is an advertisement for a Louis Vuitton suitcase that dates back to 1898! See how it has different it is compared to the modern day ads...
The third country I chose is South Africa!
I chose to look in to South African fashion because it is not a typical country for high fashion. Clothes from South Africa are very traditional and are usually recongnised with tribal prints and shapes. I thought it would be interesting to see the difference in fashion between South Africa and other countries like France :)...
Cia Afrique:
This famous African brand was founded in 2008 and mainly focuses on African style clothes. Since its creation, Cia Afrique has featured some of the best designers from Africa and around the world. Here are some examples of the very interesting and unique clothes Cia Afrique has to offer.
African styles around the world:
In recent years, African and tribal fashion has become extremely popular both in the catwalk world and the celebrity world. Celebrities such as Rihanna have put these styles in trend. You can find African style clothes in almost every shop nowadays!
Here are some photos of Rihanna sporting the trend:
This is the trend on New York fashion week:
The final country I chose is... Egypt!
For this country, I have decided to investigate the ancient fashion of Egypt rather than the modern day clothes, just to give a bit of variety! I am really interested in the ancient style of women in Egypt. It mainly includes a lot of metallic gold, wigs, and lots of eye liner!
Here is what I came up with :)
Here are some ancient drawings of a women in Egypt from around 1550BC:
One of the most famous Egyptians in history was of course Cleopatra. Cleopatra was famous for because she was in fact the last Pharaoh of Ancient Egypt. But more so, for her style! She became a fashion icon of the world and there has been many adaptions of her fashion sense. Here is a painting of her from 48BC :) and a sculpture of her face:
Most people know Cleopatra from the famous film starring Liz Taylor. The film was made in 1963 and was directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz.
Here are some iconic photos from the film:
So this concludes my geography project! I hope you enjoyed it, I know I did :)
Thanks Again!
